Il Piccolo: Sanader resigns due to Hypo and Salbatring
Author/source: SEEbizTRIESTE - The EU and the US asked for Sanader's resignation after learning he was involved in illegal activities surrounding Hypo Bank and oil company Salbatring headquartered in Slovenia, Il Piccolo speculates, Večernji list conveys.
The Italian daily writes of US ambassador's attendance at the meeting with EU top officials in Brussels when former Croatian PM Ivo Sanader was asked to resign. He was characterized as 'the biggest problem on Croatian political scene and the greatest obtascle on country's EU path". Sanader was accused of failure to tackle the corruption and to find a compromise regarding the border dispute with Slovenia, Il Piccolo writes.
Two weeks after the meeting, Sanader resigned at still unexplained circumstances, after which the bilateral relations with the US improved, the arbitrage agreement was signed and a fierce anti-corruption campaign launched.
