INDEBTEDNESS
Citizens owe HRK 110bn, companies HRK 90bn
Author/source: SEEbizZAGREB - In first nine months of 2009, Croatia's banks earned over HRK 3bn, which is 22% less than a year earlier, HRT informs.
Such drop was caused by five times higher expenses due to bad loans, which comprise for some 6.5% of the total sum.
The situation will be worse next year when another 50,000 layoffs are expected, resulting in 12-13% of unpaid liabilities. Therefore, interest rates will not be reduced, except on deposits as banks need to save to remain profitable.
Citizens owe around HRK 110bn, compared to some HRK 90bn owed by corporate sector.
